World Series Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning clash where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M watchers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
